Hand swabbing

CATSA uses Explosive Detection Trace (EDT) technology at security checkpoints around the country to screen carry-on baggage and travellers.

CATSA has expanded its use of EDT technology in airports as part of its layered approach to improve aviation security and keep travellers safe. EDT is used on a random basis, therefore, it is possible that Screening Officers may swab your carry-on baggage or your hands and then use EDT technology to test for explosives.
