Pre-board screening
Walk-through metal detector

As part of the screening process, you will need to pass through the walk-through metal detector.

In addition to the pass through the walk-through metal detector, you may be randomly selected to undergo a physical search or a full body scan. Random screening selection is carried out using technology to ensure everyone has an equal chance of being chosen for additional screening.

Your pass through the walk-through metal detector should be smooth if you:

If you trigger the alarm on the walk-through metal detector, you may be required to undergo further screening.

This may include:

Once this process is complete, you may proceed with retrieving your carry-on baggage at the X-ray scanner.

Please note that if you require additional screening, you may request a private search if you are uncomfortable with being screened in public view.

The additional screening can be conducted in a private search stall (available at certain checkpoints across the country), or in a private search room (available at all airports).  A private search stall will be located at the screening checkpoint and offers some privacy.  A private search room offers complete privacy, and two Screening Officers will accompany you. One will carry out the search, while the other will serve as a witness. Both Screening Officers must be of the same gender as you.

Consult the Travel advice section of our website for more tips on how to prevent setting off the security alarm.
